Space in Kind

Artists are invited to make use of Arnolfini’s Dark and Light Studios to develop specific or open-ended projects and to test works in progress.

Arnolfini supports ground-breaking new art, in all its stages of development. As such, we are able to offer a limited number of opportunities for local artists wanting to develop their work, but who lack space to do so.

What we can offer

  • Time in our Dark Studio. It has a sprung floor, a projector, and an audience capacity of 50 people.
  • Less regularly, time in our Light Studio. This also has a projector, but is slightly smaller, has a capacity of about 40, and has a concrete floor.
  • Subject to availability, opportunity to discuss your work with a member of Arnolfini’s Programme Department. This could be to gain feedback on your work, or seek advice on next steps on developing it further.

How to apply

  • We welcome applications from any locally-based artists with a demonstrable commitment to innovative and experimental practice.
  • The studios must be left in the condition they were found, so it is unlikely we will be able to host artists working with messy materials.
  • Please send an outline of no more than 200 words describing why it would be helpful for you to use one of our spaces, together with any supporting material you would like to share.
  • Let us know your preferred dates you would like to book.

Please send any enquiries to Phil.Owen@arnolfini.org.uk

*We are currently receiving a high number of applications. We will try to get back to you as soon as possible, but please be patient.*
