Turner Prize winner announced
The 2006 winner of the Turner Prize was announced last night as being Tomma Abts.
Artist Mark Titchner had been nominated for IT IS YOU, his exhibition at Arnolfini earlier this year.
Tomma's work was shown at Arnolfini this summer as part of British Art Show 6.
The prize, established in 1984, is awarded to a British artist under 50 for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the twelve months preceding 9 May 2006. It is intended to promote public discussion of new developments in contemporary British art and is widely recognised as one of the most important and prestigious awards for the visual arts in Europe.
