Arnolfini launches 100 Days season (29 Aug - 6 Dec)
Arnolfini presents 100 Days, marking the countdown to the 15th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP 15) opening in Copenhagen on 7 December.
The countdown to the Copenhagen conference launched on Saturday 29 August with a Speakers Corner at Arnolfini, with pioneering environmental artist/architect Peter Fend, who co-founded the New York-based organisation Ocean Earth Development Corporation in 1980.
Running at 1pm Tuesday to Sunday throughout the 100 Days, Speakers Corner offers an opportunity for individuals or groups to respond to issues of climate change or consumerism either by speaking or debating what others have to say.
100 Days is co-created by and involves networks of organisations and individuals from the arts, activism and environmental campaigning, from local, national and international contexts, bringing together those that are involved in direct action, NGO campaigns, arts, education, and research into the fossil fuel economy, creating an integrated season that gains momentum with COP 15 as the end-point. The title ‘100 Days’ references the project for Documenta V (Kassel, 1972) by Joseph Beuys, the highly influential artist/activist, as well as aiming to give a sense of urgency within a real political timeframe that will impact on all our futures.
Tom Trevor, Director of Arnolfini commented, ‘The issue of climate change is a concern for us all, and as part of the 100 Days programme Arnolfini will be highlighting the work of many individuals, organisations, artists, and activists who have been actively campaigning in this field for many years’.
