Doa Aly was born in Cairo in 1976 and graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in the city in 2001. Aly has worked as an art director and designer in Cairo, New York and Milan. Her work explores individual versus communal modes of expression, the role of body image, and the ability to define and express individual independence. Aly has recently taken part in the Dak'art Biennial of Contemporary African Art, Dakar (2006); Snap Judgements at the International Center of Photography, New York (2006); The Maghreb Connection, CAC Geneva; and In Focus, late Modern in London (both 2007).
