Alice Berger Hammerschlag

Died: 1969

Abstract painter based in Northern Ireland, having been forced to flee Germany by the Nazis, she was born and educated in Vienna. Associated closely with the Belfast Lyric Theatre, where she worked as set-designer, her work is held in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland collection. It was said at the opening of her memorial exhibition that she had been of 'inestimable value to the progress of art in Northen Ireland'.
