Martin Bloch

Born: 1883
Died: 1954

Bloch was born in Neisse, Silesia/Poland (then Germany). In 1933 Bloch left Germany to come to Britain, having been declared a degenerate artist by the Nazis. He became friends with the artist Josef Herman, which led to series of paintings depicting the Welsh landscape and figures within the landscape in the 1940s and 1950s.
