Caroline Barker is a printmaker, a calligrapher and a collector of quotations.
She combines all three in her quirky little handmade books. Sometimes she uses serious quotes and other times funny ones. The pop up books are her own design and all make an unusual present.
She designs the lino-cuts and prints them on the books on her etching press at home and then does the calligraphy. Sometimes she is using Chine-collé, a technique to allow printing on very fine paper. Her designs are inspired by the beautiful surroundings of the south Devon landscape and the stunning coastline. All books are handmade, handprinted and individually decorated in calligraphy which makes every book unique. Caroline studied calligraphy at Reigate School of Art & Design in Surrey and is a member of Plymouth Calligraphers. She is also part of the South West printmakers group Pressgang.
