David Jury is proprietor of the Fox Ash Press, for which he edits, designs, prints, and publishes limited edition letterpress printed books using a Vandercook proofing press. 'In Darkest England', (1996) concerning the Mass Observation anthropological study of 1937-8, was exhibited at the Pentagram Gallery London, The Minories Gallery, Colchester, and Bolton Art Gallery. Since that first publication he has published two books with the Humphrey Spender, two with Lee Miller and another with Virginie Litzler - all photographers. His latest project (2014) takes the form of six sheets and is the result of a colaborative project with writer, poet and artist Pete Kenedy, titled 'Inside this Earthen Vessel'.
David Jury is also a graphic designer and writer for other publishers.
His books concern printing, printers, and graphic designers and their mutual professional interests. His most recent book is 'Graphic Design before Graphic Designers', published by Thames and Hudson in 2012. Two books currently in progress are 'The Little Book of Typographic Ornament' (Laurence King, Spring 2015) and 'Bordering on the Sublime', which concerns the Curwen Press and their use of typographic ornament.This will be a limited edition book and published by the Barbarian Press (Autumn 2015).
Until recently, David Jury was head of the MA course: Art, Design, and the Book at Colchester Institute.
