Emma Bennett is a London-based artist and performance writer. She has presented her textual, video and performance work in a variety of contexts across the UK and Europe. Her practice proceeds via mistranslations, slip-ups and slippages occurring between verbal and visual modes.
As one-third of performance outfit These Horses, she co-created a body of acclaimed interdisciplinary work for stage, gallery and page (2005-2008). More recent solo projects include Thick Description (2008) – a piece for voice, stagehand and severed branch – and Like a Glove (2010), an exploration of literalness and pedantry developed in residency at Arnolfini.
Emma completed an MA in Performance Writing at Dartington College of Arts in 2008 and her work has been presented by In Between Time, Arnolfini, Bristol; Forest Fringe, Sophiensaele, Berlin; London Word Festival; The Basement, Brighton; Testing Grounds; Dartington Arts; Whitstable Biennal.
