Grzegorz Klaman was born in Nowy Targ, Poland, in 1959. From 1980-1985 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland. He currently lives in Gdansk where he is a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. He has co- founded a number of art spaces and initiatives in Gdansk, including the Wyspa Gallery (1985), the Open Atelier and the Centre for Contemporary Art in the former City Bathhouse (1992), The Wyspa Progress Foundation (1994), the artists' co-operative Moderlania (2002), and more recently the Wyspa Institute of Art (2004). As an artist, Klaman's work has been exhibited throughout the world, featuring in a number of group exhibitions including Negotiators of the Art. Facing Reality at Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art, Gdansk, Poland (2000); Irreligion at Atelier 340 Museum, Brussels, Belgium (2001); Juliet 484 at the School of the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, USA (2003); and Going Public '05, Modena, Italy.
