Kirstine Roepstorff - Silencio 1, 2006

Silencio is a collage (digital print) from Handful of Once shown at Arnolfini in 2006.

Kirstine Roepstorff’s ethereal collages are constructed from textiles and tinsel, glitter, silver leaf, paper and paint. Iconography drawn from newspapers and popular media is remodeled against National Geographic images of birds, fish and mammals to create curious landscapes that address contemporary issues. The artist employs techniques of appropriation and montage to undermine established authoritarian and hierarchical structures of a global society and to open up imagined landscapes, another kind of space - a space of potential, of resistance, and of freedom.

Kirstine Roepstorff is a Danish visual artist, living and working in Berlin. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and America and is included in the permanent collections of Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA; The Saatchi Gallery, London, UK; National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo, among others.
