Akram Khan Company
Fix/Loose in Flight/Rush
Described as the next injection of impetus in British dance, the Akram Khan Company explores the relationship between Western modern dance techniques and the traditional South Asian dance form Kathak. In these three works, the elements of each dance style are fused in an innovative new movement language. Fix clashes the trance-like state of the whirling dervishes of Sufism with Kathak’s turns, spins and circling movements, with music by Indian composer Nitin Sawhney. Loose In Flight uses Kathak dance as a base, but breaks into lyrical passages of contemporary action. Rush is inspired by paragliders in freefall – a physical state between tremendous speed and serene stillness.
