November sees the welcome return of Animated Encounters, presenting all things animated as part of Encounters Bristol International Film Festival. This year will see two special focuses on emerging talent from Brazil and Ireland, a discussion on the building blocks of pre-school animation, and a series of industry events challenging new technologies and new ideas. Animated Encounters offers a unique opportunity to see the next best thing in animation, and throughout the week the festival will showcase the best short animated films from around the world. HIGHLIGHTS

DESERT ISLAND FLICKS
Desert Island Flicks returns this year with another special guest discussing some of their favourite and most influential films. Last year saw comedian Tim Minchin take the stage and before that the likes of Peter Lord from Aardman Animations, and even Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons have featured at this exciting event.

INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED SHORTS
There are few opportunities to see some of the best short animated films in the world. Animated Encounters provides a select concentration of many of the most celebrated and inventive films currently doing the rounds at international festivals, plus some that will be shown for the very first time.

FOCUS ON STUDIO AKA
From advertising campaigns such as the popular Lloyds TSB commercials to Orange and BMW plus a number of BAFTA award winning short films - Studio AKA are one of the most influential and leading animation companies currently working in the UK. This is a rare chance to see Creative Director Philip Hunt present an insight into the prestigious work from Studio AKA.
