Marcela Levi

Massa de Sentidos / Senses Matter

Sat 13 May 7.45pm – 8.15pm & 9.45pm – 10.15pm

£4 /£3 concs Light Studio

Massa de Sentidos will be seen here for the first time in the UK. The work uses the female form and its inherent symbolism to interpret the following premise – ‘when you divide one object or cell another one emerges, which in turn divides once more, in a never-ending process of evolution’. Marcela works with her naked body and other ‘soft objects’ as tools to support this exploration.

Marcela Levi

Imagem

Sun 14 May, 7.45pm – 8.15pm &

9.15pm – 9.45pm, £4 /£3 concs Light Studio

Marcela Levi’s first solo project, constructed in partnership with the photographer Claudia Garcia, proposes a game including the body of a woman and two pieces of clothing. In this game images and senses concerning gender and feminine sexuality, are produced through the eyes of the public. Genders and identities become confused in some cases, with others becoming clearer over the course of the performance.

Michel Groisman

Porta Das Maos / The Door Of The Hands

Sat 13 May 8.30pm

£4 /£3 concs

Michel Groisman’s Porta Das Maos is a continuation of his exploration of the movement possibilities contained within the simple pairing of two hands. The project began life as a ‘one on one’ experience for audience members and will be seen here as a theatre work, using large-scale projection of the ‘live’ articulation of the artist’s hands.

Luiz de Abreu

O Samba Do Crioulo Doido

SUN 14 May 8.30pm

£4 /£3 concs

In O Samba Do Crioulo Diodo, (The samba of the Crazy “Nigger”) samba, carnival and eroticism are the constitutive stereotypes associated with the ‘black body’ in Brazilian culture. Luiz de Abreu contemplates the resistance of the black population throughout Brazilian history and questions the meaning of the body in the construction of identity. On a stage dominated by the Brazilian flag, Luiz de Abreu demonstrates recognisable, but unfinished fragmented (physical) images, in order to question the objectification of the ‘black body’.

Cristina Moura

Like an Idiot

Sat 27 May 7.30pm £8 /£6 concs

Through performance and choreography, Brazilian dancer and choreographer Cristina Moura examines the multiplicity of personalities and identities that jostle and shift within the body. In Like an Idiot the dancer performs a complex and paradoxical duet with herself, creating an inner landscape that is funny, physical, political and impulsive.
