Centre for Contemporary Art & the Natural World symposium:
Re-cycled Buildings: Architecture and ‘the New’
The Centre for Contemporary Art & the Natural World is due to open in 2002 in Poltimore House just outside Exeter. Built in the late C16th, with two wings added in the C18th, the house is now in a state of dilapidation. Architect Richard Murphy has been appointed to undertake its renovation, including an additional C21st wing of galleries. To coincide with an exhibition of the plans for Poltimore at Bristol Architecture Centre, and reflecting the current spate of ‘re-cycled buildings’ including the Tate Modern and Baltic, this symposium will examine different approaches to past and future in contemporary architectural practice. The CCANW series of symposia are supported by South West Arts, East Devon District Council and the University of Plymouth. CCANW is supported by the National Lottery through the Arts Council of England.
Free but please reserve your tickets in advance at Arnolfini Box Office.
