“Breaking down barriers by combining dance and storytelling” The Observer

Darkin Ensemble take you to underground Paris… the year is 1890 and an outbreak of hysteria is sweeping the city. In La Salpetriere, the notorious asylum, 4000 patients are being treated by the world’s greatest living doctor. He studies bodies to discover a new science of the mind. She is his favourite case, admitted to the asylum for attacks of severe hysteria, her name is Augustine. She is fifteen years old.Through intricate choreography and magical stagecraft, the company of five dancers tell secret stories of the body, with live music.

Augustine was developed through a residency at Arnolfini and is brought to you in association with Dance Bristol.
