Rick Poynor: Typographica
Herbert Spencer’s Typographica magazine was one of the most extraordinary visual arts publications of the 1960s. Its boundary-blurring investigation of modernist experimentation, typographic history, visual poetry and street photography anticipated many of the concerns of contemporary designers, artists and image makers. Rick Poynor, author of Typographica (Laurence King £25), will show how this material fused to form a publication which became a ‘work’ in its own right. Rick Poynor founded Eye Magazine and edited it from 1990 to 1997. He is a prolific author of design books including Typography Now and Design without Boundaries. He is visiting professor in Communication Studies at the Royal College of Art, London.
