A discussion event initiated by Annika Eriksson before the exhibition preview.
As part of the series "We are not who you think we are", Annika Eriksson has commissioned Fatima Hellberg to set up a panel discussion where young writers, artists and curators explore the mode in which a young generation is shaped by the very pragmatics of working and living in the art world today.
It has always been difficult working in that complex field we call the art world; free work is a necessary initiation ritual, just like astronomically high student loans is an inevitable, but by no means guaranteed, entry price. Yet with the shrinking availability of space, reduced government support and a crumbling art market you have to ask who actually can afford to become an art worker. Even in that first stage when you consider working with art, your socioeconomic background will be there to influence the decision.
