Get closer to history in the Brunel Institute as maritime curators and volunteers take you on a journey of discovery with precious items from the Archive Vault.

Discover family-friendly stories from the ship's history and be amazed by original artefacts and diaries; displayed in small group sessions.


Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, & the first two Saturdays of the month. Drop in between 12:30 and 1:30.

Brunel’s ss Great Britain has enjoyed 173 years of adventure, travelled a million miles at sea and been around the world 32 times on an incredible journey. Alongside the ss Great Britain is the Brunel Institute, which houses one the world’s finest maritime collections. The Brunel Institute is a collaborative venture between the ss Great Britain Trust and the University of Bristol.
