Henri Gaudier-Brzeska

Henri Gaudier-Brzeska has come to be regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of his generation, despite a career lasting less than four years. Gaudier-Brzeska came to London in 1911 where he was instrumental in the development of Vorticism alongside Ezra Pound, Jacob Epstein, Wyndham Lewis and Edward Wadsworth. Despite his young age, his sculptures, drawings and writings demonstrate extraordinary virtuosity, courage and maturity. At the outbreak of World War I he enlisted with the French army and was sent to the trenches where he was killed in action aged just 23.

This small exhibition presents over 15 works on paper and two sculptures. It includes a portrait of Gaudier-Brzeska’s friend and champion, Ezra Pound.
