Husseyin Turkmenlir, an outstanding folk musician from Ankara, and his ensemble, will play traditional songs and music from all the main regions of Turkey, on a variety of instruments including the saz (long-necked lute) fiddles clarinet and percussion. The saz is a haunting and beautiful instrument historically associated with the Osmali Turks who carried it with them through their broadly expanding empire. Today it is used in Turkish folk and popular music.

Husseyin Turkmenlir came to Britain in 1973. He has taken part in the City of London Festival and the Spring Festival at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He has competed successfully at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and performed for the Greek and Near Eastern Music Society and the International Folk Music Conference at Dartington.
