A showcase of Valentine’s Day prints from one of the foremost letterpress artists working in the US, Roni Gross, on display in the Arnolfini bookshop and Reading Room.

For the last quarter-century artist Roni Gross has created a printed multiple to mark the annual Valentine’s Day celebration.

Gross, who lives and works in New York City, says of the project: ‘Designed to be inclusive, I have taken this holiday and the seasons in which it occurs as a jumping off point for examination. Folklore, mythology, and meditations on love and death have all found their way into these works’.

This small exhibition, curated by Nancy Campbell, celebrates 25 years of Valentines published by Gross under the imprint Zitouna Press. These bookworks are a reflection on love and human relationships articulated through every walk of life, from song lyrics to sign language to horticulture. A variety of papers and printmaking techniques are employed, with structures including matchbooks, volvelles, flipbooks and flagbooks.
