What remains and what is discarded? This collaboration between New York choreographer Jonah Bokaer and innovative design firm Harrison Atelier explores the themes of aging, reuse of materials and the body’s range and potential. Inspired by the well-known image in Greek mythology of Aeneas bearing his father Anchises from burning Troy, Anchises explores this image in relation to the problem posed by the aging body in the artform of dance. With lighting by ‘BESSIE’ award-winner Aaron Copp and five outstanding dancers, including the legendary Valda Setterfield, and long-standing member of Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Meg Harper, Anchises unfolds as a powerful and nuanced sequence about loss and renewal.

Jonah Bokaer was named one of the 50 upcoming talents in America by The New York Times “T” Magazine, Jan 2010.

Co-commissioned by Dance South West, Pavilion Dance & Abrons Arts Centre, New York City.
