Triple Bill: IVAN – a work-in-progress, Aeroplane Man, Spoti

FRI 27 Oct 7.30pm £8.00/£6.00

Poet, MC, director and hip hop dance theatre pioneer Jonzi D returns to the stage with an evening of three works.

In September 2004 a category five hurricane, Ivan, was hurtling its way towards Jonzi D and his partner Jane in Jamaica. The fear of impending doom sparked discussions about their mortality and future together. They wrote journals and poems during the night to document the experience, wondering if anyone would ever read them. The result is this new work-in-progress, Ivan co-commissioned by Arnolfini and directed by acclaimed playwright, author and director Amani Naphtali.

Jonzi D’s critically acclaimed Aeroplane Man is the true story of a black man’s journey from East London on a global quest to find his spiritual homeland. This short work will be shown alongside Jane Sekonya’s piece Spoti where an old woman’s favourite hat has the power to transform her into the young woman she once was.
