La Pocha Nostra The New Barbarians Collection Fall 2007: Designer Primitives on The Runaway Runway
International rebel artists collective La Pocha Nostra storm into Bristol to create a politically charged fashion show; an interactive performance inspired by the stylisation and commercialisation of fear and otherness. In August, Arnolfini and La Pocha Nostra members Guillermo Gómez Peña, Roberto Sifuentes and Violeta Luna put out a call for multidisciplinary performers, costume designers and rebels to participate in a residency to help create their fashion show. This, the closing event for Port City, is the result; a ritualistic spectacle of exploded identities from Bristol, UK and Australia. Within the current climate of global tensions, religious opposition and military conflict, La Pocha Nostra have set about the task of crossing (and erasing) the borders between art and politics, artist and spectator. Will you cross the borders with them? Come dressed for the red carpet.
