Lectures: Situations
The Situations lectures continue with an outstanding line-up of artists, critics and curators. The series explores the conditions under which many art works now come into being: for example, as ‘off-site’ projects, for a biennial, or as part of a residency. Contributors include Jimmie Durham, artist, writer and poet of Cherokee descent; Catherine David, Director of Documenta X in conversation with Irit Rogoff, Goldsmiths College, London and Nicolas Bourriaud, the author of Relational Aesthetics. The lectures will be published along with interviews and texts in collaboration with Black Dog Publishing in the autumn. 2004 will also see the commissioning of five new art works for Bristol as part of the Situations research initiative in partnership with Bristol City Council. Situations is an initiative led by the University of the West of England in association with Arnolfini.
