Mayfest At Arnolfini

This weekend of performance has been brought together by Arnolfini and Mayfest. Some are co-presentations and others have been curated by Arnolfini. We welcome back familiar names to unusual locations and bring together some extraordinary shows. For full Mayfest programme visit www.mayfestbristol.co.uk

Fri 16 & Sat 17 May 7.30pm

Mayfest – Tim Crouch/News From Nowhere

England

£8.00/£6.00 concs

A big hit at the Edinburgh Festival, ENGLAND is the story of a search for a new heart. It’s a story about a life saved and an illness overcome at any cost. It’s a tour through spaces and across borders: from an art gallery to a jam factory, from Lisbon to Osaka, from a hospital bed to a hotel room. Taking place within Arnolfini’s current exhibitions, the work continues Tim Crouch’s fascination with the nature of the theatrical experience; the communication of an idea from actor to audience… and back again.

Fri 16 May 10.00pm

Mayfest – Hello Sailor (Goodbye Heart)

Tom Marshman and friends

(Location to be confirmed)

Following a number of forays over recent months where he has been found around Arnolfini in a sailor costume, Marshman will set out to saturate his life with all things sailory. A companion piece to last year’s Finding my Inner Cowboy, Tom and some new sailor friends will be taking boat trips, scrubbing the decks, recreating battles, making rum cocktails and of course getting a tattoo. Somewhere late and in the city, he will reveal his new identity especially for Mayfest.

Sun 18 May 11.30am & 4.00pm

Mayfest – Mem Morrison

Leftovers

In a café location to be confirmed, Price includes full cooked breakfast. When booking, please let us know if you require a vegetarian breakfast.

£10.00/£8.00 concs / Booking essential

The full English breakfast is given a Citizenship Test as Mem Morrison returns to his roots to explore the cultural connotations of the traditional greasy spoon café. Leftovers is a performance and sound installation which is an affectionate yet probing view of how cultures meet, eat, socialise with and influence each other. Taking place in time-honoured cafés, the work brings together Mem’s cultural and culinary concerns alongside the personal histories of Turkish Cypriot café owners.

Sun 18 May 7.30pm

Mayfest – Rosie Dennis

Double Bill: Love Song Dedication & Fraudulent Behaviour

£8.00/£6.00 concs

Sydney-based Rosie Dennis presents a reworking of her Inbetween Time festival hit Love Song Dedication alongside a work-in-progress of a brand new piece, developed during a two-week residency at Arnolfini. Dennis will be working with secrets and lies, exploring how they can shape, create and recreate a person’s identity. Fraudulent Behaviour questions the blurred distinction between reality and fantasy and what happens when people begin to believe the fiction over the fact. Send her a secret or a lie before 18 May and this may be incorporated into the performance. This can be done anonymously simply marked Rosie Dennis c/o Arnolfini or to tim.harrison@ arnolfini.org.uk
