Nomadic Reading Room

Monday 07 September 2015 to Sunday 20 September 2015, 09:00 to 18:00

Artist Connie Butler presents a touring collection of rare artist books to appear in public libraries across the city.

Nomadic Reading Room is a roving collection of artist books, publications and printed ephemera. It is driven by the desire to occupy public space, creating opportunities for engagement with important ideas and material.

During September Nomadic Reading Room will be working in partnership with Arnolfini’s Artist Book Collection, curating a selection of key works to be toured across public libraries in the city. The aim is to activate this unique archive, one of the largest collections of its kind in the UK.

Nomadic Reading Room is an artist-led project originally created in 2012 by Connie Butler. Recent instalments have taken place at sites including The Red House, Bexleyheath and The Slade School of Fine Art, London

September 8th - 9th - Nomadic Reading Room will be appearing at Junction 3 Library (Baptist Mills, Easton, Bristol BS5 0FJ)

September 10th - 11th -  Nomadic Reading Room will be appearing at Bedminster Library (4 St Peter's Court, Bedminster Parade, Bristol, BS3 4AQ)

Richard Long: TIME AND SPACE

This event accompanies the major exhibition TIME AND SPACE by Richard Long at Arnolfini, that explores the artist's enduring relationship with the landscape of Bristol and the South West – a starting point for so many of his iconic works. This exhibition will bring together recreations of previous important works and entirely new commissions, both in the gallery and on The Downs, where the artist spent much of his childhood. A programme of events accompanies the exhibition and offsite commission, including walks, talks and conversations, family events, screenings and performances. Read more...
