Primer: Art Theory/Art Practice
What role does theory play in contemporary art practice? How have ideas of art training and criticism shifted from an emphasis on technical skills to a process in which theory plays an essential role? This day school, with Dr Carolyn Wilde, will explore the debates about the relationships between theory, practice and critical understanding in contemporary art. It will include broad theoretical themes from the different historical periods of Fine Art, in particular the later 20th century.
