Granta Best of Young British Novelists 2003
Twenty years ago Granta devoted an entire issue to new fiction by 20 of the ‘Best of Young British Novelists’. Ten years later, in 1993, it did the same again. Each list was a revealing snapshot of a generation of writers about to come into their own, including Martin Amis, Ian McEwan, Pat Barker, Jeanette Winterson and Will Self. Arnolfini is pleased to welcome four writers from Granta’s 2003 Best of Young British list.Toby Litt has published three novels and two collections of short stories including Deadkidsongs and Exhibitionism. His new novel Finding Myself will be published by Hamish Hamilton in June. Monica Ali’s first novel Brick Lane will be published by Doubleday in June. Susan Elderkin’s first novel Sunset Over Chocolate Mountains won the Betty Trask award. Her second, The Voices is due to be published by Fourth Estate this summer. Ben Rice’s novella Pobby and Dingan (Jonathan Cape) won the Somerset Maugham Prize in 2001. He is currently adapting two of his stories for feature films.
