The Benn Lecture – Andrew Gilligan

Shooting the Messenger – Press Freedoms Under Attack

Mon 26 Nov 7.00pm

£10.00/£5.00 concs (Including NUJ members)

Former BBC defence and diplomatic correspondent Andrew Gilligan delivers the second in a series of annual lectures which reflect critically on 21st Century news production and reporting. In May 2003 Gilligan’s report on an intelligence dossier on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction led to a row between the government and the BBC that had far-reaching consequences. In his talk he argues that our freedoms are being subtly eroded as the media is blamed for crimes for which others are responsible.

This event is organised by the Bristol Branch of the National Union of Journalists.
