Arnolfini & Knowle West Media Centre Co-Commissions

The Harrison Studio & Associates (Britain) Greenhouse Britain: Losing Ground, Gaining Wisdom & Teresa Dillon: Seeing at a Distance

Exhibition at Knowle West Media Centre

Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) is partnering Arnolfini to showcase the latest work by two of the US’s foremost ecological artists, Newton and Helen Mayer Harrison. The exhibition is a response to predictions that climate change will mean sea levels rise by up to five metres this century, displacing two million people in Britain alone and re-shaping the nation’s lifestyles and landscapes. Using studies of three rivers, including the Avon, a giant relief map of Britain and multimedia projections, they ask: “The oceans will rise gracefully. Can we withdraw with equal grace?”

This show is one of eight artist commissions, offered to mark the opening of the new KWMC, under the banner title Keys. These include a second Arnolfini / KWMC co-commission Seeing at a Distance by Teresa Dillon. She has been tracking noise level changes on routes linking Arnolfini with the new building, and then interpreting the data to create maps for walkers travelling between the two venues, with points for reflection along the way.

The Newton and Helen Mayer Harrison exhibition is at KWMC’s new HQ at Leinster Avenue, BS4 INL.
