The Seashell And The Clergyman (18)

With Live Accompaniment By Minima

£8.00/£6.00 concs

Arguably the first example of Surrealist cinema, this dark, erotically-charged film is an hallucinatory story of tormented desire, guilt and conflict. With daring imagery, startling effects and a sense of the absurd, it was banned by the British Board of Film Censors with the words: ‘This film is so cryptic as to

be almost meaningless. If there is a meaning, it is doubtless objectionable.’ The Minima line-up of drums, bass, guitar and cello produces an intense atmosphere akin to Mogwai, with delicate, hypnotic rhythms invoking The Penguin Cafe Orchestra.

Presented by Bristol Silents.
