Seeds that came to Bristol in the ballast of ships embody both Bristol’s trading past and the stories of the people affected. See and comment on artist Maria Thereza Alves’ proposal and plans for a Ballast Seed Garden in Bristol, while enjoying tours of the University’s Botanic Garden and their own version of a Ballast Seed Garden. There will also be light refreshments and discussion between the artist, biologist Simon Hiscock and environmental historian Peter Coates and chaired by Arnolfini Director Tom Trevor. This forms part of a consultation process with communities about the proposal for a Ballast Seed Garden as a permanent public artwork which Arnolfini have been developing with the help of Bristol City Council.

This event is an Arnolfini and University of Bristol partnership
