UWE / Spike Island Talks : Cally Spooner

Wednesday 29 April 2015, 18:30 to 20:00

Artist and writer Cally Spooner discusses her work and current Spike Island exhibition, Post-production.

Cally Spooner appropriates performance genres such as the Broadway musical, TV commercials and film trailers as both form and reference.  Philosophy, current affairs and pop culture converge as Spooner examines ideas around technology, time and managed experience.

Listen again:

Opening this spring at Spike Island, Spooner’s solo exhibition Post-production, takes the form of a post-production studio. Treating the galleries as an active testing site, and working closely with Spike Film and Video, the artist uses her solo show to make the final edits of an ongoing – almost complete – project, And You Were Wonderful, On Stage. In doing so, Spooner explores the terrain of the editorial cover-up; asking what can and should be removed, improved and fabricated as post-production fiction.

Spooner’s recent works include solo presentations, performances and exhibitions at the GB Agency, Paris (2014), BMW Live Performance Room, Tate Modern (2014). Recent commissions include High Line Art, New York, presentations at Frieze Film, London and a production residency at Experimental Media and Performing Arts Centre (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

Don’t miss Spooner’s exhibition Post-production at Spike Island 18 April to 21 June 2015. www.spikeisland.org.uk/events/exhibitions/cally-spooner/
