We are Family

Saturday 27 April 2013, 11:00 to 15:00

For this 4 Days special come and explore the themes of spoken word, language and listening through workshops, activities and fun family friendly performances.

With: Antonia Barnett-McIntosh, Emma Bennett, Holly Pester

Explore the themes of spoken word, language and listening through workshops, activities and fun family friendly performances.   Play the accent game with Emma Bennett (voice artist) and Antonia Barnett-McIntosh (composer) and make a megaphone to add your own sounds and language to Arnolfini.  Are you brave enough to stand and speak on our family soapbox?  We welcome visitors of all ages to come and take part, no pre-booking required.

Lawrence Abu Hamdam (interactive artwork)
Dark Studio, 1pm - 6pm

Come and explore speech and voices with this artist in “Aural Contract Audio Archive”. This artwork has been made by collecting lots of different sounds and clips of people speaking. The artist has then put them into a special sound library. You are invited to speak into the microphone and the library will match up your voice to one of the sounds in the room.

Megaphone Making (workshop)
Foyer, 1.30pm - 5pm
Make your own amazing megaphone to add your own spoken word and sounds to Arnolfini. Drop in and have a go!

Interactive Quiz and Badge Making (workshop)
Meeting Room, 1st Floor, 1pm - 5pm
Come and take part in our family survey to find out what your family looks like as a contemporary artwork.

Holly Pester (workshop)
Light Studio, 2pm - 3pm
Work with artist Holly Pester to create a mis-matched choir based on mis-heard song lyrics, or mondegreens (singing loudly, and strangely will be encouraged!).

This 2pm workshop is free but limited capacity, so advance booking is essential via the Box Office on 0117 917 2300.

Family Soapbox (workshop/performance)
Foyer, 2pm - 4.30pm
Do you and your family have something to say to the world? Do you have a poem that you would like to share? Would you like to sing a made up song? Be brave and take a stand on our family soap box for your 5 minutes of fame.

Emma Bennett and Antonia Barnett-McIntosh (performance/workshop)
Light Studio, 3pm - 4pm
Join in and play the accent game with Emma Bennett (voice artist) and Antonia Barnett-McIntosh (composer) and listen more carefully to how we speak to each other.

Caroline Wilkins (performance)
Foyer, 4.30pm - 5pm
A promenade performance using the invented language ‘Zaum’. Artist Caroline Wilkins uses strange musical instruments and props to explore how to make sounds and how sound moves through the building.
