Centre for Moving Image Research/Arnolfini Bursary 2016

Together with the Centre for Moving Image Research (CMIR) we are offering two production bursaries of £1000 each for the creation of new moving image works.

We are seeking proposals for two new moving image commissions, to be developed between July 2016 and Summer 2017 and presented at Arnolfini within the 2017 programme. Individuals or groups based in the South West, from all creative disciplines, are invited to apply regardless of their prior relationship to working with moving image. It is intended that the finished work will be screened at Arnolfini in 2017, and on the CMIR website for an agreed period, and at other locations in consultation with the artist(s). CMIR will retain an archival copy of the work.

Priority will be given to approaches that look to explore how we connect to the world we live in, creating dialogue or participation with others, be it through social, political, poetic or economic means. We welcome experimentation, and new ideas and approaches.  In particular, Arnolfini are interested in how we respond to the space around us. How do we create and use spaces in our lives for connecting with ideas, things or people: be they physical spaces, social spaces, spaces in our imagination or virtual spaces?

As part of the bursary, there will be:

3 mentoring/support sessions at Arnolfini.

Some technical support from CMIR.

Engagement with a UWE researcher is expected – please email to discuss.

Please submit a word doc or pdf,  max 2 sides A4, to include

a) idea and description of the artwork (including expected duration),

b) technical requirements and how these might be met,

c) timescale,

d) draft budget (including whether you would intend to use the CMIR/Arnolfini bursary to leverage further funding), and

e) links (YouTube or Vimeo) to previous work.

CLOSING DATE: 3pm on 27th June. No late submissions will be accepted.

Selectors will be Rob Bowman, Elizabeth Graham (Arnolfini), Sarah Sparke, Terry Flaxton (CMIR), and filmmaker Shawn Sobers.
