Don't Tell Your Mother

DTYM is an LGBT+ Friends monthly party night in Bristol and they're about to take the reins for our first Summer Cuts takeover of 2017. Find out about their best moments, who's throwing the best parties right now and listen to a few of their favourite tracks...

What’s your story? How did DTYM begin?

DTYM started as an experiment - evolving from the meeting of Lloyd and Chris who both DJ'd for Wonky. About a year after Wonky closed its doors, they both missed DJing and wanted to see if there was space in Bristol for a new monthly night for the LGBTQ+ community. Turns out there was! It’s in it’s third year now and still evolving - 2 became 3 and Nic joined the DTYM party.

You’re fresh out of Bristol Pride 2017. How was it for you this year?

This was a flipping brilliant year for us at Bristol Pride! It was great to bring our favourite DJs together and have a good old boogie! O2 main stage is definitely a highlight of our super busy year!

Who’s throwing the best parties right now?

Thorny always throw a bloomin' great party. There's a real fresh and edgy vibe to everything they do! Let’s not forget Dada for Girls too and the awesome Isadora Vibes who joined both us and Thorny on stage at the O2 this year for Pride.

What’s your favourite DTYM party moment?

Flashmob at the May OMA & the Invasion Party we threw last November as the unofficial Peaches After Party. This was our first time at the bigger venue and we had queues around the block! The room was electric that night!

Tell us about your line-up? Who is NOT TO MISS for DTYM’s Summer Cuts take-over?

EVERYONE! That's like asking a parent to choose their favourite child! (Maybe PopHorror if we had to choose but it's hard to have favourites in such a brilliant lineup!) - we’ve brought a very different vibe to both the day and night line up too. If you can make all of it we highly recommend you do. We’ll have a few surprises along the way at the Horror Prom!

Which festival/event would you most like to DJ at?

Glasto! Or Primavera!

Out of all the tunes you have, which one ‘never fails’?

Chris: Beyonce - Formation

Nic: Wildchild - Renegade Master or Donna Summer - I Feel Love

If you could eternally be stuck in one year's music scene, which year would it be?

Chris: What a great question!!! 2008 was a pretty great year (Beyonce-Single Ladies, Sam Sparro-Black & Gold, Friendly Fires-Paris, Estelle-American Boy, Britney-Womanizer!)

Nic: OOH.. Maybe if I absolutely I HAD to choose I’d go back to the mid 90’s when I used vinyl - Renegade Master was at the front of my record bag then too!

Who are you wearing to the Prom?

Very good question.. we’ll let you know on Saturday if our old tux jackets still fit! It’s been a while since we’ve been to a prom!

What are your top five Spike(Desert) Island disks?

Amerie - 1 Thing

David Bowie - Golden Years

Robyn - Call Your Girlfriend

Prince - Let's Go Crazy

Missy Elliot - Work It

Wildchild - Renegade Master

Groove Armada - Get Down

Gwen McCrae - All This Love That I’m Giving

Basement Jaxx - Jump n Shout

Peaches - F*** the pain away
