The Front Room

As part of Arnolfini’s year of transition, we are testing out new ways of using our spaces, creating a more open and welcoming ground floor.

Our campaign to Imagine New Rules for a 21st century centre for contemporary arts in autumn 2017 told us that our visitors really wanted a flexible space to talk, eat, meet and read as well as spaces in which to experience exhibitions, performances and events. So we've built a prototype to test out a new public space on our ground floor - the FRONT ROOM - and have moved our library of art and design books and magazines from the reading room into this space.

Visitors can bring their own food and drink into this space, or order at the cafe and be served in the FRONT ROOM.

The space can be used for meetings and working, and is open to bookings.

We intend that international exhibitions will continue to be part of our programme in the future, but during this year of transition, our regular exhibitions programme is paused whilst we take Arnolfini through major changes behind the scenes. During this period we have four major programmes taking place across the city and we are pleased to be working with partners across Bristol to programme a series of significant events.

Perfect space to work. Thank you @ArnolfiniArts love your new 'front room' #bristolculture

Great idea @ArnolfiniArts @ccdbristol - real access and openness.

Wonderful project! Any space 'filled with books' which is 'open to all' is a PRECIOUS space #WeLoveBooks #WeDoArtBooks
