Architecture Centre Talk: Nils Norman - Cancelled due to illness

Wednesday 05 July 2017, 18:30 to 20:00

Nils Norman works across art, architecture and urban planning. His projects challenge notions of public art, the efficacy of mainstream urban planning and large-scale regeneration.

Nils Norman will be discussing his Future Perfect public art commission for Hengrove in south Bristol. The project builds on his wider research into playgrounds, adventure play and city design, and how playgrounds from Tokyo to Copenhagen are being integrated as important elements in urban planning.

Nils was commissioned by Future Perfect to make a work to help knit together disparate green spaces in the neighbourhood of Hengrove. Pieces of Play (2014) consists of a public footpath, a series of play areas, and a new theatre curtain for Hengrove Community Centre that references the history of the area.

This talk forms part of the programme of events organised by the Architecture Centre accompanying their exhibition Murdered with Straight Lines: Drawings of Bristol by Garth England (31 May to 10 September).
