Asking for Trouble? Pushing the boundaries in Contemporary British Television Drama
To celebrate the publication of his new book Sensing the City through Television (Intellect £19.95) Peter Billingham will chair a panel discussion featuring Russell T. Davies, Tony Garnett and Tony Marchant. The discussion will focus on three pivotal urban television dramas, Queer as Folk, Holding On and The Cops and explore the themes raised in the book. Through five case studies from British and US television drama, Sensing the City explores and exposes ideological concerns about the nature of the contemporary city and the related urban issues of law, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and class.
Peter Billingham is Principal Lecturer in Drama at Bath Spa University College.Tony Garnett is one of Britains leading producers of innovative and radical television drama. His work includes recent critical success with The Cops. Tony Marchant is one of Britain’s leading television dramatists. His credits include his dramatisation of Great Expectations for the BBC and award winning dramas such as Holding On. Russell T. Davies created and wrote the acclaimed series Queer as Folk for Red Productions/Channel 4.
