An interactive play project that aims to open up Leigh Woods for more sustained and varied use by children and their families. Join us for exciting free play workshops in Leigh Woods.

With: Assemble

Come and join us for two days of exciting outdoor free play in the woods with artists Assemble and the National Trust.  Come prepared to get messy, as we explore mud play in the woods.

For two days will be working hard to develop our mud pies, mud slides, mud-boards and mud disguises! We will be bringing out a new set of loose parts and kit specially chosen by Bristol Children’s Scrapstore to support play in the woods, and there will be plenty of space for improvisation and experimenting.

Make sure you’re dressed appropriately. Bring a spare set of warm clothes to change into before you make your way home. Hot ribena and free cups of tea will be provided, but bring a packed lunch along so you can stay and play all day!

Everyone is welcome, and whilst we encourage parents and carers to stand back and let their children lead their own activities, there will be plenty of play for adults too. Children will be supported and supervised but left to their own devices to explore the woods under their own steam, following their own curiosity and imaginations.

Parents and children are also invited to help us convert an open wood shed into a space for storing kit for play, so that loose parts can be available at Leigh Woods for a long time to come. Children will also have a chance to leave any discoveries they make of fantastic ways to use the play kit in a Play Log Book, contributing to the development of play in the woods in the future.

Activities will take place around the Rangers Hut located at the end of Valley Road.
