READINGS | BREAKING GOOGLE NEWS HEADLINES

Saturday 30 March 2019, 15:00 to 15:30

Presented as part of Bristol Artists Book Event #BABE2019 | What does a year's worth of news look like? What information are we being drip-fed hour-by-hour and what sort of picture does it paint of life today?

Every day during 2018 artist Robert Good collected the headlines offered to him by the Google News feed and compiled them into BREAKING - a mesmerising mix of sport, fashion, gossip and gloom.

Join artist Robert Good as he discusses BREAKING, a deep dive into the world of online news, and find out how it provided a strangely calming moment of zen.

Venue - Dark Studio, Level 2.

Robert Good wrestles with words to consider the frailties of language and the problems of knowledge. Texts are like tubes of paint, to squeeze out and create with.

He has previously worked with over 2400 Geordie dialect words, 500 Northumberland placenames and a large scale text installation at Skinningrove Mining Museum. His book A New Dictionary of Art is currently stocked at Tate Modern and galleries across the UK.

Jane Glennie is the founder of Peculiarity Press. She is an artist and internationally recognised filmmaker, and concerned with the articulation of text and communication of ideas whether in installation, film or printed matter.

Bristol Artists Book Event (BABE 2019) is a biennial festival featuring the work of bookmakers and small presses from around the world. With more than 100 makers taking part, and prices starting from just a few pounds, there will be something for everyone. Presented by Arnolfini, with Sarah Bodman (Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England) and Tom Sowden (Bath School of Art and Design, Bath Spa University).
