SUN 11 DEC 2.30pm
As part of the Autumn Art Lecture series we present a special double bill of soccer-related movies that combine strong visual imagery with a passion for the beauty and controversy of sporting practice. With Zidane (2006), artists Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno offer a compelling vision of one of football’s most creative characters, using seventeen cameras focused exclusively on Zidane, to produce a mesmerising and hypnotic cinematic portrait. In a similar vein, Yves Hinant’s newly-released fly-on-the-wall documentary, The Referees (2009), offers an in-depth study of the people we all love to hate.
Introduced by Dr Mike O’Mahony from the University of Bristol.
