Glimpse behind the scenes at how the ss Great Britain and other historical items are looked after.

The Brunel Institute houses thousands of items, documents and artefacts relating to the ss Great Britain and Brunel's history.

Conservation in Action gives you the opportunity to see how the curators look after these precious items and keep them safe for the next generation.

Rare passenger diaries, the ship's iron hull and pesky bugs in the Dry Dock are examined and explained.

Brunel’s ss Great Britain has enjoyed 173 years of adventure, travelled a million miles at sea and been around the world 32 times on an incredible journey. Alongside the ss Great Britain is the Brunel Institute, which houses one the world’s finest maritime collections. The Brunel Institute is a collaborative venture between the ss Great Britain Trust and the University of Bristol.
