Jo Bannon: Alba

Friday 08 September 2017, 19:30 to 20:30

Alba is a performance about paleness, blending in and standing out. Stepping out from her personal experiences, Jo Bannon explores the meaning of identity.

“I was born on the day the Pope came to Coventry, my home town. In my family this unexpected appearance was perceived as a blessing. A sublime gift”

Influenced by her experience as a person with albinism, Jo Bannon uses blinding light, proximity, movement and sound to create an extraordinary visual poem. The performance takes its title from the Italian word Alba, meaning sublime light.

Alba explores the stories we tell of ourselves and the stories told about us, the myths we inherit and the ones we embody, the identities we cannot shake off and so instead perform.

A candid, powerful and moving self-portrait’ – Exeunt Magazine

First presented at the Arnolfini in 2015, Alba has successfully toured through the UK.

The performance will be followed by a post show talk with the artist and Helen Cole, Artistic Director/CEO of In Between Time. Join us to learn more about the background of the show.
