MUSIC | Evan Parker: Trance Map

Friday 20 April 2018, 22:00 to 23:30

Presented by St George's in partnership with Arnolfini, as part of Bristol New Music 2018 - one of history's great saxophone players, in an improvisational and experimental performance.

Evan Parker is one of history’s great saxophone players. Pushing the instrument into uncharted waters since his emergence in the late 1960s, Parker’s improvisational style has helped to redefine what the saxophone can do.

In this exciting performance, Parker will be joined by two master musicians – electronic artist Matt Wright and cellist Hannah Marshall.

The interaction between Parker’s soprano saxophone and Wright’s laptop and turntable generated music with live sampling – long loops of gradually changing patterns – became an approach that they have used subsequently in a series of concerts.

Hannah Marshall joins them on cello for a special trio performance as part of Bristol New Music 2018 - creating new sounds and experiences based on  electrifying music.
