MAPPLETHORPE ARTIST/SUPERSTAR Susan Butler will discuss Mapplethorpe's work on TUESDAY 18 OCTOBER at 7pm in gallery two where the work is hung. Susan Butler has recently written about Mapplethorpe's work in an article entitled, "Revising Femininity" for Creative Camera (September '83 issue). She introduces the discussion - open to your contributions - as follows:
Robert Mapplethorpe has recently gained the kind of reputation that is perhaps only possible from the springboard of New York. Is his reputation due to an immaculate and stylish technique and a specialty in perverse subject matter, or is there a genuine substance -a personal vision and sense of form - that will make it endure?
Entry to this discussion is FREE.
