Arnolfini Dark Studio £6/£4
Drawing on her mixed British and Australian Aboriginal heritage, this new work addresses the legacy of colonial violence, and questions of cultural duality as they speak through the flesh itself. The first major piece in the series UnSettling Suite, this work deals specifically with the generations of ‘half-blood’ Aboriginal children, including the artists own mother, who were affected by the Commonwealth governments regime of ‘assimilation’. In this work the audience is invited to take part in an unholy communion, an exchange of metaphorical flesh and blood, an annunciation of the unquiet histories, which run though our veins.
