For decades, performance has been an integral part of Arnolfini’s programme. Come along to this showcase of the newly digitised documentation archives of live art and dance at Arnolfini.

Since the 1970s many, many artists have presented experimental live work at Arnolfini that redefines the parameters of performance.

Over the past year, we have been digitising our archive of documentation of Live Art and Dance at Arnolfini which provides unique access into this very special heritage. For this event, we have invited Mary Paterson and Johanna Linsley to curate a first public showing of some of the material, and to explore links between it and the Live Art Archives at the University Bristol’s Theatre Collection.

Mary Paterson is a writer, artist and producer. Her publications include Imagination and Potential (LADA, 2017), and Joshua Sofaer: Performance/Objects/Participation (Intellect, forthcoming), while with Maddy Costa and Diana Damian Martin she co-edits the journal Something Other, a platform for experiments in writing and the live. In 2017 Mary was Bristol Writer in Residence for the Art Writer’s Group, co-hosted by Arnolfini and Spike Island.

Dr Johanna Linsley is an artist, researcher and producer of performance, and Research Facilitator in the Department of Drama, Theatre and Performance in the University of Roehampton. Co-editor of Artists in the Archive (Routledge, 2018), she was Research Assistant for the AHRC-funded project Performing Documents (University of Bristol).
